Parts and accessories
There is over half a million pounds worth of stock held in the UK. Parts are normally available within 24 hours and are backed by the manufacturers parts promise. We can supply your parts mail order should you require them.
If Italjet UK cannot supply a part for a current model scooter within 7 working days, it will be supplied free of charge.
Insurance
Legally, you must have at least third party insurance to ride on the road. This comes free with all Italjet scooters. If you finance your scooter you will usually have to upgrade your insurance to at least third party, fire and theft. We can offer you this upgrade for a maximum of £99. This offer is open to riders of any age and any model*. We can also insure your scooter in the following year at extremely competitive rates.
*Subject to status and terms and conditions apply.
Licencing
You can visit the DVLA site for the definitive guide to licencing or see our quick guide.
Training
If you hold a full car driving licence and passed your test prior to February 2001, you can ride a 50cc moped without the need for any training or a test.
CBT: Compulsory Basic Training
You must complete a CBT course before you can go out on the road on your own, with L plates, if:
You hold only a provisional licence
You passed your car test before February 2001 and you want to ride a scooter more than 50cc
You passed your car test after 1.2.02 (this is compulsory)
The course is a day long and is run by qualified instructors who teach the basics of riding a motorcycle and road safety.
Whilst the CBT is not required for some car drivers we strongly recommend that all riders complete at least a CBT before going out on the road.
Theory test
All licence holders must pass the DVLA’s theory test before taking any motorcycle test other than a CBT.
What test do you need to take?
There are three routes to getting a licence depending upon your age and the size scooter you want to ride:
A1 Light Licence Minimum age 17 years. This is taken on a motorcycle between 75cc and 120cc. Once passed, this licence allows you to ride any motorcycle up to 125cc without L plates or learner restrictions.
A2 licence (restricted)
Minimum age 17 years. The test is taken on a motorcycle between 120cc and 125cc. Once passed you have a full motorcycle licence but you will be restricted to a 25kw (33bhp) motorcycle for the first two years.
A Licence (full)
Riders aged 21 years and over can bypass the 2 year restriction by passing a test on a motorcycle of at least 35 kW (46.6 bhp). This is known as a direct access.
Advanced training
Most training schools offer advanced riding courses, the most popular being “Safer Scootering” which is run by the Institute of Advanced Motorcyclists (www.iam.org.uk). Information about courses run by your local police force under the Bike Safe Initiative can be found at www.bikesafe-sheffield.co.uk.
Derestricted 50cc scooters
Once a 50cc moped is derestricted, it becomes a motorcycle as far as the law is concerned. This means that the rider has to be at least 17 years of age and must complete a CBT course before riding on the road, by law.
